Vikings place T Andre Smith on IR, Work out T Jake Long

OT Jake Long tried out for the Minnesota Vikings on Monday

In his weekly press conference, Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer stated that T Andre Smith will have triceps surgery and will be placed on season ending injured reserve list (IR).
Smith was a free agent acquisition this off-season from Cincinnati and had a poor overall performance in his first few games at RT.

The Vikings brought in T Jake Long for a workout today. No news if the team will sign him or not. Long played T for both the Dolphins, Rams and Falcons. He was a highly sought after 2008 First Round T until injuries marred his ability to stay on the field for his previous teams. On July 26, 2016, Long agreed on a 1-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Due to concerns over his surgically repaired knee, the Ravens requested that Long sign an injury waiver. Jake Long declined the request and never signed the contract, making him a free agent.

There is slim pickings on the street and Vikings GM Rick Spielman will not be too keen on using any more draft picks for a trade with any other teams. We will just have to monitor and see what happens.

The Vikings lost T Matt Kalil earlier this season, Phil Loadholt retired and also lost G Brandon Fusco to concussion on Sunday vs the Texans.
