With the new NFL season set to begin this afternoon, the Vikings have some work to do. Early reports indicate that the top offensive linemen are already off the market as Matt Kalil (Carolina), Andrew Whitworth (LA), and Ricky Wagner (DET) have agreed in principle to deals. There are still some options for the Vikings in Russell Okung and Kevin Zeitler if they want to upgrade before the draft. Ideally, Minnesota would sign a couple of veteran linemen in free agency, which would open up their draft board in round 2, making OL less of a need and running back a strong possibility.
Another option could be to target a running back in free agency. Latavius Murray, with a career 4.2 yards/carry average on 543 touches (via ESPN), makes sense if AP is not retained. Murray is a bigger back that could complement McKinnon in the backfield quite well.
Like always, the Vikings did not get off to a fast start in the free agency period, but there is still time to improve this offseason.
